2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony Debuts On HBO Tomorrow, April 30

Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A. and Steve Miller are the performer inductees in the exclusive HBO special 2016 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY, debuting SATURDAY, APRIL 30 (8:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT). This year’s ceremony boasted a star-studded array of guests and presenters, including Kendrick Lamar, The Black Keys, Rob Thomas, Lars Ulrich, Kid Rock, David Byrne, The Roots, Stevie Van Zandt, Sheryl Crow, Grace Potter and Kimbra.

  • Following the debut of 2016 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY on the main HBO channel, the HBO Zone channel will present the special for 20 hours straight, beginning at midnight that same day, and concluding Sunday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m.
  • The special will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO and HBO On Demand.

The 31st annual induction ceremony took place April 8th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The HBO special spotlights some of the most memorable names in music through special reunions, touching tributes and heartfelt speeches from both presenters and inductees.

    Performance: Deep Purple performs “Hush” and “Smoke on the Water.”

    Induction: Kid Rock
    Performance: Cheap Trick performs “I Want You To Want Me” and “Surrender.” The band is then joined by Deep Purple members David Coverdale, Roger Glover and Glenn Hughes, Chicago members Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Walt Parazaider, Sheryl Crow, Grace Potter, Paul Shaffer, Rob Thomas and Stevie Van Zandt for “Ain’t That a Shame.”

The ceremony opened with “Fame,” a rousing tribute to David Bowie performed by The Roots, David Byrne and Kimbra. Glenn Frey of The Eagles was remembered in a poignant duet by Sheryl Crow and Grace Potter on “New Kid in Town.”

2016 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY also celebrates Prince with footage of his 2004 induction and performance that evening.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was established by legendary record executive Ahmet Ertegun and a group of music business executives to honor the artists who have defined rock and roll and have inspired and continue to inspire a generation. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc. is the nonprofit organization that exists to educate visitors, fans and scholars from around the world about the history and continuing significance of rock and roll music. This year’s special marks the fifth year HBO has presented the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The network also presented the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th and 30th anniversaries in 2009 and 2014, and a concert spectacular celebrating the opening of the museum in Cleveland in 1995.
