Film Series Featuring The Best Contemporary Colombian Films At The Angelika

FOCUS Colombia, the monthly film series featuring the best contemporary Colombian cinema, aims to promote high-quality films starting June 3rd.

In the past 10 years, Colombia has seen a rebirth of its cinema and has gained international recognition by producing engaging and thought-provoking films that have received accolades at the most important film festivals in the world including Cannes, Berlin, and Sundance, among many others. FOCUS Colombia will bring these films to the American audiences.

The titles announced so far are a selection of comedy and music-inspired films that includes the box office hit “Drinking Once a Year Isn’t So Bad” (Uno al año no hace daño), Colombia’s highest-grossing film of all time.

FOCUS begins on June 3rd and it will take place the first Wednesday of every month at Angelika Film Centers in Dallas and Plano. All tickets are $10 and available at AngelikaFilmCenter.com.

June 3, 2015 @ 7:00 PM – UNO AL AÑO NO HACE DAÑO

Renowned Colombian filmmaker, Dago García presents this epic comedy that became the highest grossing film in Colombian cinema. The movie dives into the culture and traditions of a typical Colombian family. Every important moment in this family’s life becomes an excuse to celebrate and have a party. Do you know a family like that? A movie that will have you laughing out loud about the Colombian way of life.

July 1, 2015 @ 7:00 PM – SE NOS ARMÓ LA GORDA

Humorists Fabiola Posada and Nelson Polanía star in this madcap comedy as a husband and wife facing their first marital crisis. Tired of the situation at home, they decide to take a break from each other. Fabiola decides to go to San Francisco where a Chicago gang kidnaps her. Now, Nelson has to rescue her before it is too late. A hilarious movie that will have you roaring with laughter.

August 5, 2015 @ 7:00 PM – PORRO HECHO EN COLOMBIA

Grammy nominated artist Adriana Lucía, narrates and directs this fantastic film that dives into the world of the Porro, the traditional musical style from the Caribbean region of Colombia. Adriana Lucía will take you through a journey that celebrates its indigenous, European and African origins, the musical styles of the region, and the revived interest and future of a rhythm that will have you tapping your feet. The film won the audience award in the NY Film Festival in last March.

September 2, 2015 @ 7:00 PM – CIUDAD DELIRIO

Homage to the art of salsa, CIUDAD DELIRIO, is a romantic comedy set in Cali, the salsa capital of the world. Here Javier, a shy Spanish doctor travels to Cali for a conference and meets Angie, a dancer and choreographer who dreams of being part of the world’s most famous salsa show: Delirio.
