When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer-director John Carney (“Sing Street,” “Once”), “Power Ballad” is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.
“Power Ballad” will make its World Premiere on Sunday, March 1st at Dublin’s stunning Bord Gáis Energy Theatre as the Closing Night Gala of the Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF) – a milestone moment as the festival presents its finale in the iconic venue for the first time. Writer/Director/Producer John Carney is expected to attend alongside stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas for the film’s celebratory debut.
Bringing the film to Dublin holds particular significance for Carney, as the story is set largely in Ireland, making this hometown premiere an especially meaningful launch for both the filmmakers and the city. Following its World Premiere, “Power Ballad” will head to SXSW for its North American Premiere on Saturday, March 14th, before opening nationwide in theaters on June 5th.
