Movie Review: Guy Ritchie Outdoes Himself With “The Gentlemen” As It Is Funny And Smart With An Incredible Cast

A British drug lord tries to sell off his highly profitable empire to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires.

After Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) decides to sell his drug business to a very rich businessman named Matthew (Jeremy Strong), things go terribly wrong. His secret location where his drugs are stored is broken into by students of mixed martial arts Coach (Colin Farrell). They not only steal his product, but they also record and post everything on social media. As word spreads about the break-in, Mickey and his right-hand man Ray (Charlie Hunnam) set out to find who is behind the operation. Fletcher (Hugh Grant) a slick, cunning man who only has loyalty to himself, shows up at the home of Ray claiming to have all the information in exchange for millions.

As the story is cleverly told through a movie script Fletcher has written, we are introduced to the many interesting characters who are involved. Using wit, and the help of other powerfully rich people, Mickey Pearson and his men finally take down the real perpetrator. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this movie as the trailer doesn’t give it justice. I will say that there was not one quiet person in the theater, everyone literally laughed the whole way through and it was so well written with tons of witty jokes that you actually get. All the characters are weird but clever and you secretly don’t want any of them to be killed off.

Everything about this movie just works and notice how I didn’t really spoil it for you. Can we take a moment to acknowledge this amazing cast? I mean, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Henry Golding, Charlie Hunnam, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, and Michelle Dockery! You will not be disappointed.
