Movie Review: “Eternals” Is The Love Story Marvel Fans Have Been Waiting For

The saga of the Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations.

“Eternals” is Marvel’s 3rd feature film of phase four that has brought something new and fresh to its long-term fans. The story follows 10 Eternals and their purpose on planet Earth. I was wondering how they would explain why they weren’t there for the previous big battles. For context, the Eternals were assigned to Earth by a celestial, Arishem, to fight off deviants so the human population could continue to grow.

This film is completely different from the other Marvel films that have come before. It honestly feels like a solo side story that doesn’t belong in our universe. However, it works. I loved learning about all of our heroes and I was worried director Chloé Zhao would have a hard time juggling all of these new characters in one movie, but she does not disappoint. The movie is two and a half hours long for a reason. We need to understand and develop our characters so there are stakes once we get to the end of the movie.

My favorite character was Sersi, played by Gemma Chan. This is the love story Marvel fans have been waiting for and her chemistry with Richard Madden`s Ikaris felt so real for me. They have known each other for over 7,000 years but they still love each other more than anything. Chloé Zhao did great showing their century-long love with copious amounts of visuals. Overall, go out and see this movie and make your own assumptions, this is something new and fresh for the MCU so you have to have an open mind.

Now playing everywhere in theaters
