Sarah is a young woman whose life is in a bit of a mess. The last thing she needs is someone else to look after. Yet, like it or not, her Grandmother has bequeathed her a very spoiled pug – Patrick. Surely she must have had her reasons?
Beattie Edmondson stars in “Patrick” as Sarah, a woman whose life is, well, not going all that great. Her boyfriend has left her and her parents believe her life as a teacher is ruining her life. It’s when she inherits her grandmother’s dog, Patrick, the fun begins. One would think that taking care of a dog would be easy and simple, but not for Sarah. One major problem is that Sarah is not at all crazy about dogs, not to mention that Patrick gets her evicted from her home.
The question then becomes, can Sarah find happiness with Patrick? Could Patrick become the key for Sarah and her desire for a more meaningful life? Then something happens with Patrick that turns everything around.
Patrick is a character that has charisma and he makes a few funny scenes even better. He’s surrounded by a cast of excellent comic actors – Jennifer Saunders, Tom Bennett, Adrian Scarborough, Gemma Jones – but they’re all mere support. The pooch is the star.
The running time comes in at 94 minutes and occasionally you feel that might be a little long for a movie. However, Patrick, the pug, makes it worth the view. The film is suitable for children. The romance in the film is very tame and suitable for all ages with some mild language.
