A sex worker who has addiction and money problems finds her life spiraling into a dark abyss.
As Dana (Noëlle Scönwald) mourns the death of her ill daughter, she also lives in fear of her boss Nelson (Jaime Tamariz) whom she owes money. Struggling to support herself as a prostitute, she finds comfort and friendship in a physician named Julian (Cristian Mercado) who is a regular client. When Dana witnesses a little girl in the house where Nelson shelters trafficking victims, she decides to confide in Julian about her plan to rescue her.
Things get dangerous when she shows up to the home of Nelson with money she owes, barely making it through security as she hides a drug-filled syringe under her sleeve. Tension builds as Dana almost gets herself killed when Nelson appears to see right through her. You think it’s over when he pulls a gun on her then strikes her for her disappearing acts. As Dana talks herself out of a bullet to the head, she gains control of the situation again. Pretending to be excited for a promotion partnering up with Nelson instead of working the streets, she suggests a celebration her way.
As they begin to make out, Dana pulls the syringe out and stabs him and then strikes him on the head with a metal rod. While he is down, she grabs his gun and shoots him but realizes she has seconds to rescue that little girl. As she runs downstairs to find her, she confronts the woman who helps Nelson kidnap the girls. Holding her at gunpoint, she demands her to release the little girl over to her. As she opens the door the woman realizes that Dana is attempting freedom and begs to take her. Meanwhile, the guard hears the gunshot and makes his way to the main house. Dana makes it all the way through the gate with the child but waits as she dodges security on the way in. The child slides through the gates and gets away while Dana is cornered by Nelson’s team and shot dead.
What a powerful story and another spotlight being put on sex trafficking. It is a global issue that is happening right under our very noses. That little girl appeared to be not even seven years old and was promised to someone for sex purposes. Many of the young victims of sex trafficking come from very poor countries. Currently, there are reportedly over 20 million living in a situation of human trafficking.
