Blu-ray Review: “The Boys: Season 4” Delivers More Chaos, Gore, And Laughs Than Ever

Season Four of “The Boys” features Butcher’s deteriorating health from his Temp V use and his mission to get Ryan back from Homelander. The Boys are on the run after being ambushed and captured by supes under Homelander’s control. At the same time, Homelander continues his power grab and Victoria Newman inches closer to the Oval Office.

Just when you think “The Boys” has hit its peak insanity, Season 4 arrives to prove you wrong—mocking you, downing some Vought gin, and detonating chaos simply because it feels like it. It’s as if the writers have a list titled “Don’ts of Television” and make it their mission to check off a new one each week. This season is pure bedlam: politicians somehow get even grubbier, superheroes spiral further out of control, and figuring out who’s a hero versus who desperately needs a therapist is pretty much impossible. Karl Urban’s Butcher is still the crankiest anti-hero around, now weighed down by even more existential gloom and a liver that’s hanging on by a thread. Hughie’s fate as the universe’s perpetual victim continues, with Jack Quaid fully embracing that anxious, doomed energy.

Homelander, unbelievably, gets even more unsettling. Antony Starr is so convincing as a villain, you almost want to apologize for ever doubting his chops. Every moment he’s on screen is a toss-up between laughing nervously or hiding behind a pillow. The newcomers mesh perfectly, which is saying something when the primary requirement seems to be “okay with gross-out gags and mass destruction.” The scripts keep their edge, skewering basically every institution under the sun—and usually landing the punch.

Is it subtle? Not at all. Does it care about subtlety? Absolutely not. Sure, some plots could have used a bit more time to develop, but let’s be real: you’re not tuning in for deep psychological portraits. You’re watching to see unchecked superpowers collide with zero filter or media training. Season 4 is disgusting, hilarious, and possibly more on-point than ever. If your stomach is up for it—and you can overlook the occasional dud—you’re in for a wild, entertaining ride. Maybe skip the snacks while you watch. Consider yourself warned.
