Blu-ray Review: “Lost In Space: The Complete First Season” Makes For Exciting Sci-Fi Entertainment

After crash-landing on an alien planet, the Robinson family fight against all odds to survive and escape, but they’re surrounded by hidden dangers.

Netflix has brought back the classic ’60s TV series “Lost in Space” with a whole new look and it most definitely succeeds. Most notably, it doesn’t have the cheese factor the original series employed (and that is not a slam as the ’60s series was awesome). This new iteration is set 30 years into the future and contains a great cast including Toby Stephens as John Robinson, Molly Parker as Maureen Robinson, Taylor Russell as Judy, Mina Sundwall as Penny, and Max Jenkins as Will Robinson. Playing the legendary role of Dr. Smith is Parker Posey and Don West is played by Ignacio Serricchio.

The family takes off not knowing that Dr. Smith is on board and ends up crash-landing on a planet but they are not alone. There are other humans there as well. Dr. Smith has taken control of the robot and is using him to cause problems. Each member of the family goes through a different adventure that could cost them their lives. And we learn, via flashbacks, that all was well with the Robinson family before they entered this space program and took off. Through the 10-episode season, much happens and the number of episodes was a perfect way to introduce everyone and get the various storylines going.

This new series is a bit darker and more serious than the original and the look and feel of it makes it its own. The casting is perfect, especially Parker Posey as Dr. Smith. The design of the robot is crisp and clean and the special effects and look of the show are top-notch. The show left lots of questions unanswered for season two and Netflix did indeed renew it.

While we wait for season two you can pick up and binge-watch season one which will be available in stores on Blu-ray & DVD Tuesday, June 4th from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
