Blu-ray Review: “Cinderella” Returns In Celebration Of Her 70th Anniversary

When Cinderella’s cruel stepmother prevents her from attending the Royal Ball, she gets some unexpected help from the lovable mice Gus and Jaq, and from her Fairy Godmother.

Disney Princess fans, rejoice! Watching one of your favorite crowned pals just got easier with the new multi-screen edition. For those who have never once sat down and watch Cindy in action, now is the time. Seriously, what are you waiting for? But if you don’t want to watch the movie, why not bring this classic from way back in the fifties to your children or grandchildren? This tried and true favorite makes a great gift and a great watch for a girls’ night with a bowl of popcorn. Tiny princess-loving girls not required but appreciated.

For the three or four people left in America who do not know what “Cinderella” is about, here’s a little back story. Cindy, a fond nickname, lost her mother at a young age and lived alone with her father until he remarried. The new wife was a lady of renown with two daughters as ugly as their personalities. When Cindy’s dad dies suddenly, she is left in the world with only her stepfamily who hates her for her good nature and the creatures sneaking into the house.

Step-mommy dearest sends Cinderella to live in the attic as she is no longer the lady of the house and there, Cindy finds a new family, little mice she dresses up in tiny hats and shirts. Gus-Gus is by far the cutest and most charming. She spends her days cleaning, cooking, and waiting on her stepsisters and mother for their every need. As the movie includes music, the animals break out in a song about Cindy’s daily chore list. Then one day an announcement shows up at the estate.

The prince needs to find a bride and his parents expect him to pick a mate at an upcoming ball. The stepsisters prepare for the ball and so does the help, that is Cindy. Shock of all shocks, stepmom says Cindy can go if she finishes all her chores. Of course, she tacks on a few more chores just as it’s time to leave for the palace and the main character stays behind in tears and a ruined gown.

A fairy godmother shows up, tosses Cindy in a magical gown and sends her in a pumpkin carriage to dance into the arms of the prince but with a curfew. On the way out of the palace trying to get home before she turns back into a Scully maid with a pumpkin, she loses a glass slipper which is the only clue the prince has to find the woman of mystery who stole his heart. Will he find her before his parents force him to marry another?

Every princess lover should own this most treasured story. Even better, this version includes a digital code to watch on your smart TV or computer along with a DVD and Blu-ray. Keep a copy at home, at grandma’s, and on the iPad. True fans will delight over two hours of bonus content and two movie versions. The disc even includes a little trivia and comes digitally remastered.
