Album Review: “Talk About Love” – Music From The Motion Picture “No Postage Necessary” By Charleene Closshey

Straight out of jail, a hacker steals letters hoping to find cash. He reads one of the letters, falls in love with the writer and decides to change his ways to be worthy of her.

First off, I have not seen the movie “No Postage Necessary” but the soundtrack covers themes ranging from classical Jazz to Irish music. Charleene Closshey, also one of the stars of the film, displays a wide range of musical skills handling multiple roles on the album. Closshey impressively arranged, produced, and recorded the songs. Her voice reminds me a bit of Joni Mitchell or a similar type of classically trained vocalist. There is almost a Renaissance-era quality to her voice feeling almost bye-gone compared to most contemporary singers.

The soundtrack’s opening track, “Talk about love,” is a breathy ballad lingering somewhere between old Hollywood and a Broadway show tune. The next song, “Give me your Heart,” is an Irish driving duet. It has the sweeping pipes and fiddle with a Mumford & Sons-like guitar riffs filling the speakers with immediacy. “Galileo” feels the least inspired and reminiscent of a discarded Disney song. Many of the subsequent songs feel like brief passages meant to drive and develop the story.

While the music isn’t my usual cup of tea, I truly admire Closshey for her sheer talent and lovely voice.
